Adults Who Care:

Youth & Young Adults:

There are a lot of things that kids have to deal with in school. Bullying is an issue that affects lots of students. Over 60% of all students report being bullied and many policies have been implemented to protect against bullying and to educate teachers and others about how to effectively address this issue. However, over 90% of all LGBT students report being bullied as well and many school policies do not address this issue effectively. Reports of teachers engaging in this same type of bullying has been well documented and yet many school districts continue to deny this is an issue and are unwilling to create and implement policies that protect these students and hold those responsible accountable.

I have been speaking on suicide awareness and prevention for over twenty years and am increasingly alarmed by the rate of youth/teen suicide; especially as it relates to LGBT youth. Published studies indicate that LGBT youth are two to six times as likely to attempt suicide than peers that are heterosexual.

Below are some links, resources, and videos that can help educate, and assist in addressing this social injustice and honor the diversity in your community. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255 or the Trevor Lifeline from the Trevor Project 1-866-488-7386
